Broken Mouse

It seems the mouse in the latest version of Debian simply doesn't work. I tried 
it in a VM and it worked great. Upon trying to install from live USB, the mouse 
simply doesn't move. This was the case for both net install and offline 
install. Is there something I can do to fix this?
