Hello all First of all, apologizes if there's a better channel to voice this over.
I would like to suggest that, in forky and all upcoming Debian distros, thermald is installed by default in platforms where it is supported. I installed Debian in my Surface Go and sometimes it would turn off automatically without any apparent reason whatsoever. Journalctl and kernel logs didn't show anything wrong; the logs just cut when the system turned off. I was aware that CPUs automatically shut down themselves before reaching extremely dangerous temperatures, but I didn't think of that at all, since I always expected that the OS would handle that gracefully automatically. Turns out it didn't. thermald fixed it. It's a really small utility and, in my opinion, is assumed by most users that the OS will take care of the thermals automatically. Having it preinstalled going forward (at least on platforms where it is supported) doesn't have big disadvantages, but could potentially save countless of troubleshooting hours to other users. Best regards, Fernando
