Hello,

I would like to join the Debian Python Team.

My reason is concrete rather than general: I have adopted python-svg.path,
which has been orphaned since 2017 (#816512) and sits in the team's salsa
namespace. I retitled the WNPP bug to ITA earlier today and have prepared
7.1-1, which picks up the pending upstream release and the adoption itself.

Following team policy I have set Maintainer to the team and put myself in
Uploaders, rather than taking the package personally.

   * Salsa login   : dkost/[email protected]
   * I have read and accept the team policy.

My salsa account is still awaiting approval, so I have not been able to push
to python-team/packages/python-svg.path yet. The branches are ready locally
(master, upstream, pristine-tar) and I will push as soon as I have access,
at which point the Salsa CI pipeline can speak for the package better than
I can.

In the meantime the package is on mentors and I have filed an RFS:

   RFS : https://bugs.debian.org/1143833
   ITA : https://bugs.debian.org/816512
   dget :
https://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/p/python-svg.path/python-svg.path_7.1-1.dsc

What changed since 7.0-2, which was a QA upload by Alexandre Detiste in
January:

   * New upstream release 7.1 (bug fixes plus a new Path.lengths() method).
   * Adoption: Maintainer to the team, myself in Uploaders, closes #816512.
   * Standards-Version 4.7.4, debhelper-compat 14.
   * Removed debian/tests/python3-svg.path, which nothing referenced - there
is no debian/tests/control and the autopkgtest comes from
     Testsuite: autopkgtest-pkg-pybuild.
   * debian/copyright: extended the upstream range to 2026 and added myself
     to the debian/* stanza.

QA, all against unstable: sbuild in a clean sid chroot succeeds; lintian
2.139.0 run inside the chroot reports no tags at all; autopkgtest passes
with 56 tests on Python 3.14.6; piuparts passes install, upgrade and purge.
For comparison, 7.0-2 as it stands in the archive emits
orphaned-package-maintained-in-private-space, which this upload resolves.

This is my first Debian upload, so I would genuinely welcome review as much
as sponsorship - if something in the packaging is wrong or merely
unidiomatic, I would rather hear it than not. The changelog has six entries
where the adoption alone would have needed two; if a narrower first upload
would be preferred, the debhelper-compat bump and the removed test script
are both independent and I am happy to split them out.

Thanks,

Dustin Kost
