Hello QA team, There are ongoing efforts to reduce the key package set and to move package dependencies from 'Depends' to 'Recommends'. I've tried to report bugs (#1139453 and #1145003), but they are landing at packages where the symptoms are shown, but not the root cause.
I'm unsure where and how to properly report an issue, or to do a proper diagnosis. My current hunch is that multiple recommends for virtual packages, e.g. 'polkit-1-auth-agent', cause the package resolver to make the 'wrong' decision, whereas in the past a more firm 'depends' would push the package list to the desired state. In the case of #1145003 I tried to dig a bit deeper, but I don't know where I can find the moment the decisions are made (and therefore not how to stabilise the package selection). With the current dependency chain it is always technically possible to generate images (live images, netinst images), but only during their tests it shows that the installed packages are not the desired ones. How can the package selection be stabilised? (Or: who can help here?) With kind regards, Roland Clobus
