I created a new user using the System Settings "Users" module. The module added the user to /etc/passwd* with different uid:gid from the settings for that user's home directory. As a result gdm3 and sddm locked up and wouldn't even return to their "select an account" pages. * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? Edited /etc/passwd to make uid:gid match settings for the home directory. * What was the outcome of this action? gdm3 and sddm no longer locked up. * What outcome did you expect instead?
