Thanks for your reply. I'm aware that OTR but that isn't a replacement for gpg. The lack of digital signatures is a non-starter for many organizations. I would prefer to keep this bug open, possibly downgrading to wishlist. There is no reason not to bundle both gpg and otr together. Further, removing gpg during an upgrade is a significant problem.
