Hi, I recently experienced the same problem: Comic did not get new comic-strips, only the saved ones could be displayed.
If you have installed network-manager but use the "classical" way with /etc/network/interface, the not configured network-manager seems to block comic from receiving new strips. The fast way to check this is to restart network-manager. After that Comic worked for me again, thus I deinstalled network-manager.
