I've put in 2.2.11 for now and have working floppies, using the stable boot-floppies branch from CVS. The problem with 2.2.12 is I hear it will also have raid updates that are not backwards compatable, require a new raidutils, etc. Probably not good for stable. But it will have a patch for the memory leak in 2.2.11 that must go in at least. We also need to upgrade all the packages at http://www.debian.org/releases/slink/running-kernel-2.2. Sean Perry is working on this. Also, packages like lsof and modules packages that are linked to the kernel version will need to be rebuilt. > XFree: > upgrade to 3.3.3.1 or 3.3.4. (3.3.3.1 is old already : jan 99) Working on 3.3.4. It builds, but the maintainer hasn't really released it yet so I'll have to wait till they do. > gdb: > upgrade to 4.18 (4.17 has a few major problems, like missing > support for libdl, etc...) Someone else will have to handle this, I think, I don't know anything about it and it's very complex. > Apache/PHP3: > look if the upgrade is worth it? I looked at http://www.debian.org/y2k/ and all packages listed as OK there are already of the same or newer versions in stable already. util-linux is marked as "BAD?" with no explination, and perhaps we should try to get that fixed. Moving on to http://www.debian.org/y2k/extra, cvs in stable is ok according to the maintainer, though the page doesn't say so. htdig in stable has y2k problems, updated. dgs, gs, and gnats, all have problems and I don't know where to get fixes since they're broken in stable too. -- see shy jo
