Discussion over there has ceased. To summarize it in one sentence: grub is encouraged to claim ownership of that conffile and take the neccessary measures to fix this bug on upgrades to stretch. I havent heard of any progress on the grub side ... but since it is also reproducible in plain jessie (the neccessary sequence is just not covered by the default piuparts tests), let's fix init-select in jessie, too.
