You conclude in the bug reports that the API has not changed, which is fine and that the ABI probably has not changed too. Well, then a SONAME bump is wrong, if that is the case. Anyway you should ask for rebuilds here on d-release, as binNMUs won't close bug reports and the bug reports you filed as normal should IMHO be serious as the old binary packages will be cruft-removed soonish.
