I would have downgraded the bug to "important", based on the assumption that "in the package maintainer's opinion, makes the package unsuitable for release" does no longer apply and "has a major effect on the usability of a package, without rendering it completely unusable to everyone" applies very well (the package is broken for your user and not for you).
