It means it's installed in proposed-updates: $ wget -qO- http://ftp.debian.org/debian/dists/proposed-updates/main/binary-amd64/Packages.bz2 | bzcat | grep-dctrl -PX -s Version grub Version: 0.97-27etch1 stable's Packages file never changes between point releases.
