It makes qemu linux-user work regardless of what mmap_min_addr is set to. The fix is not backportable, it depends on the TCG rewrite that ended up in qemu after lenny. Regardless, almost everyone who uses linux-user qemu use custom builds of qemu rather the debian packaged version.
