Might also be worth looking at the upstream changes here: http://git.videolan.org/?p=vlc/vlc-1.1.git;a=shortlog The videolan team maintaines -bugfix branches for a limited period of time, where they backport important fixes like security and other important changes, but don't allow any new features.
