I've created a squeeze branch for console-setup branched from the version in squeeze with only the change to fix #610843 and pushed this branch to the d-i repo. I also tested the package with a netboot-gtk mini.iso built from squeeze (and localudebs) and it indeed fixes the bug and AFAICS does not introduce any regressions. Gaudenz -- Ever tried.
