I apparently managed to not spot earlier that this package isn't even in the archive at all right now. Unless a reasonable case could be made that it was required as the only way of fixing a candidate issue in another package, I suspect the chances of us accepting a package into the release that didn't have any sort of version in unstable at the time of the freeze are low.
