dgit has an extensive regression test suite for its own functionality, including facades which emulate or stand in for various important archive infrastructure.
But when doing work on dgit's support infrastructure itself (eg the dgit-repos VM, archive database, etc.), and when working on the configuration machinery in dgit that control how dgit talks to the infrastructure, it is necessary for me to make actual uploads to the actual archive. Until now I have been uploading dgit itself to experimental. This is unsatisfactory because I want to be able to use the space occupied by dgit in experimental for experimental versions of dgit :-). I therefore propose to upload a test package. That is, a package whose only purpose is infrastructure testing. Its contents aren't very important (but it would obviously be dfsg-free). Such a package should probably be normally uploaded to experimental, but might need to be uploaded to unstable on rare occasions. The test package obviously ought not to propagate to testing, even if (accidentally or deliberately) uploaded to unstable. This could be achieved by filing an RC bug and/or by adding dependencies which will never be satisfied. Is there already a test package name I can use for this purpose ? Something that is sometimes used for BTS testing or the like might be appropriate. I don't mind sharing this `package' with other people doing crazy stuff, provided they aren't going to mind either. If I don't hear any good other suggestions soon I will make something up, as I have some dgit infrastructure work which has got to the top of my todo list. (Sorry for not asking sooner.)
