I am maintaining the package ruby-responders , which has a RC bug[1] filed against it. The issue is that the gem tries to define its own controller generator template and hence replaces the file /usr/lib/ruby/vendor_ruby/generators/rails/templates/controller.rb', which is also used in many other packages like ruby-jbuilder. When I asked upstream, they replied that it is the way that is intended to work. Individual gems define their own generators in the folder lib/generators/ I know that for rails engines, we move the folder to /usr/share/$package/ and patch the source to read from there. But, since this file is inside the lib directory, I don't know what to do.
