The last trigger that pushed me across the decision to remove was gitlab moving fully to AI driven development [1]. I was hoping to get back to updating it but never found enough motivation. When I started with gitlab packaging and maintaining git.fosscommunity.in instance, the best option for a github.com Free Software alternative was gitlab. It seems currently the community momentum is with forgejo and codeberge.org It was not updated for sometime since we were not able to fix the features broken on update. Thanks to everyone who contributed along the way with maintaining dependencies across ruby, javascript and golang teams. Also special thanks to Nilesh and Akshay who helped me fix some really hard issues multiple times. We can remove any gitlab only dependencies with rc bugs more easily, but we could keep the packages that is working well.
