Our company is currently runnings 3 31bit debians on 2 g5-s. We will

My question is: Is it possible to run debian in 64 bit mode?
If it is, does 64bit deb packages exists? Or do you plan to make
a debian-s390x port?
Thank you for answers.

We are working on it, but don't expect a release in the near future.
The problems are mostly in the area of 64bit/32bit compatibility, i.e.
making sure that you can install any mix of 32 bit and 64 bit applications on a single image.
This work is mostly being discussed on the [email protected]
list, where the port to AMD's hammer architecture is done.

Note that you can use a 64 bit kernel with debian on s390 in order to use more than 2 GB RAM, but there are a few applications that might not
run in that environment.

You can also use the 31 bit kernel. This restricts only the address space to 2GB.

Gerhard
