kernel cross compile

I've been building a few kernels for testing using make-kpkg on our 
s390. Everything has been working fine, except that I am bogging down 
the system.

Has anyone been able to build a package on Woody for i386 for the 390? 
The IBM site has some info on doing a 2.2 kernel cross build, but I 
wondered if somebody might have some Debian specific guidance that is 
more up to date?
