Looks like you need to apt-get install desktop-file-utils based on what I read here http://mail.gnome.org/archives/nautilus-list/2004-July/msg00217.html http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/desktop-file-utils This will add gwyddion.desktop in /usr/share/applications for gnome-related shortcuts I suppose.
