Dear all, Here is my latest ITP. There is only one binary file, so this package will be ready very soon and uploaded to mentors.debian.org. The rationale for packaging such small program is that there is a meta-aligners which appeared in the field, which pool the output of many different programs to produce a higher-quality alignment. Apt-get installing the meta-aligner and pulling the dependancies would be a must...
Have a nice week-end, -- Charles Plessy Wako, Saitama, Japan ----- Forwarded message from Charles Plessy <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> ----- Date: Sat, 29 Apr 2006 21:00:03 +0900 From: Charles Plessy <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Bug#365344: ITP: kalign -- Global and progressive multiple sequence alignment Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Charles Plessy <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Package name : kalign Version : 1.04 Upstream Author : Timo Lassmann <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> URL : http://msa.cgb.ki.se/downloads/kalign-1.04.tgz License : GPL Description : Global and progressive multiple sequence alignment Kalign is a command line tool to perform multiple alignment of biological sequences. It employs the Wu-Manber string-matching algorithm, to improve both the accuracy and speed of the alignment. It uses global, progressive alignment approach, enriched by employing an approximate string-matching algorithm to calculate sequence distances and by incorporating local matches into the otherwise global alignment. In comparisons made by its authors, Kalign was about 10 times faster than ClustalW and, depending on the alignment size, up to 50 times faster than popular iterative methods. It has been published in Lassmann and Sonnhammer, BMC Bioinformatics 2005, 6:298. .
