I have made a number of changes[1] to http://wiki.debian.org/DebianScience - hopefully they are an improvement (and if anyone objects to the changes I have made, please let me know).
Before I go much further, how do people see the role of the wiki - and in particular the individual subject pages. At the moment many of them are out of date and incomplete. How do people see the role of the wiki pages? Are they a list of packages people want packaged, and some indication of progress on the packaging? Are they to give information to researchers in particular subject areas on what packages are available? Are they a list of e-mails on what packages people used 3 years ago (this is the case for some of them)? Should they be replaced by http://cdd.alioth.debian.org/science/tasks/index.html Personally, I think that related projects - debian-med etc should be linked more prominently - but how far does that extend - I don't think we want to link to teams maintaining one package for example? What I think would be nice are case studies (or links to case studies) of how to accomplish a particular task. The "how to produce a poster" section of http://wiki.debian.org/DebianScience/ConferenceTools is rather sparse for example. Another example that would be useful to me personally is "How to perform finite element modelling using software in Debian". Comparitive reviews of particular pieces of software would also be useful. Chris [1] I've added DebianScience/Engineering etc to match up with the metapackages, moved the metapackages area nearer the top and turned it into a table with links to the sentinel pages and ITP/RFP. I'd like to add a link to bugs in particular subject areas - see http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=489861 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
