To go further now: - I opened a bug/feature request for parmetis to use a open source license: http://glaros.dtc.umn.edu/flyspray/task/139?tasks=all&project=2 - There is actually one package that depends on parmetis: https://packages.qa.debian.org/s/suitesparse-metis.html But this one seems to be orphaned to.
