Hi Debian Science, the good news is that in the last months a small team has gathered with the goal of packaging SageMath for Debian stretch. And we made pretty good progress. The soft freeze for stretch is coming closer, and we might have a change to upload the remaining dependencies and SageMath itself until the beginning of December so that they can pass NEW and enter testing before the freeze on January 5.
Until then all the dependencies need to be in testing. Unfortunately some of them have RC bugs that have been open a long time. For SageMath to enter testing, these need to be fixed before the soft freeze. We are lacking manpower to work on these while still packaging new dependencies. If you want to see SageMath in stretch, it would be nice if you could have a look at the list of RC bugs on https://wiki.debian.org/DebianScience/Sage#Other_packages: and see if you can help fixing one or two of them. Thanks! Tobias
