Well sir, you made my day, I've been playing around with gazebosim. Looks really cool. The fact that it comes with a GUI makes (probably a false impression) the learning curve less steep. Even though is not exactly what I was looking for, it seems to do everything I need with the added feature of being able to simulate environment stuff. Simply great. Thank you both for your feedback, I was completely wrong when I assumed we would have no capabilities in Debian to counter proprietary software in this regard.
