scientific packages including the majority of R packages we are
following this route.

Time-frame of weeks on my schedule. It can be team-uploaded if it's
urgent.
The blocker is scotch in any case, upstream is trying to identify a fix
for #1150637 but they haven't been able to reproduce the error.
