not for me , if i reinstall docbook-xml , i have no docbook-xml.xml in /etc/xmlI've removed the CC to an obsoleted/closed bug. Lets have this conversation openly on the user SGML/XML list.

- why there is docbook-xml.cat in the SGML /etc/sgml directory and not in /etc/xml directory ?
Ahem -- it is:
ls -l /etc/xml/docbook-xml.xml
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 6334 Feb 15 14:05 /etc/xml/docbook-xml.xml
Also:
no my system is not broken, it is because i'm using testing packages, no t unstable.
dpkg -s docbook-xml | grep ^Depends
Depends: sgml-data (>= 1.7.2), symlinks, xml-core (>= 0.05), sgml-base (>= 1.17)
As you see, docbook-xml depends on xml-core. I don't see how you have the docbook-xml package installed and not xml-core, unless your system is pretty broken.
so for docbook-xml version 4.2.7: dpkg -s docbook-xml | grep ^Depends Depends: sgml-data (>= 1.7.2), symlinks, sgml-base (>= 1.17)
i download and install docbook-xml version 4.2.11Are you still having problems? If so, please install the lastest (unstable) versions of docbook-xml and let me know what you get when you do this:
ii docbook-xml 4.2-11 standard XML documentation system, for softw
dpkg -l docbook-xml sgml-data xml-core
ii sgml-data 2.0 Common SGML and XML DTDs and entities
ii xml-core 0.06 XML infrastructure and XML catalog file supp
Also:-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2936 2004-02-16 09:55 catalog
ls -l /etc/xml/
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2827 2004-02-16 09:55 catalog.old
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 6334 2004-02-16 09:55 docbook-xml.xml
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 6172 2004-02-16 09:55 docbook-xml.xml.old
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1363 2004-02-12 09:37 sgml-data.xml
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1219 2004-02-12 09:37 sgml-data.xml.old
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 517 2004-02-16 09:43 xml-core.xml
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 381 2004-02-16 09:43 xml-core.xml.old
echo $XML_CATALOG_FILESnothing
And finally:nothing
xmllint --nonet --valid --noout <failing_file>
OK i test: xmlto xhtml-nochunks failing_file
and it works
thanks everybody i think you have to pass v4.2.11 to testing
