I just asked Mike Mc Bride (KDE editorial team coordinator) if he could write installation instructions for Debian based on what we have at http://i18n.kde.org/doc/install. He just succeeded in installing the docbook-tools on a Debian. Here are his comments right after the operation: ------------------------------ > I just wanted to drop you a note, and let you know that I needed to reinstall > my entire docbook tools (from a clean linux install), and by following your > directions, everything worked, without a problem. > > Great Job. > > Just in case you are not aware, I just used them on a debian installation > (dpkg based), without any serious problems. > > Something you might consider adding to the sheet for those of us who do not > have an "rpm base", but a "rpm capable" system, is some quick notes about how > to use dpkg to search for previous installed files > > dpkg -l | grep jade > dpkg -l | grep sgml > dpkg -l | grep docbook > > Also, to make sure you have tetex installed > > dpkg -l | grep tetex > > Finally, when installing with rpm, you must use the "-- nodeps" option, > because while these programs are installed, they obviously do not have an > entry in the rpm database. ------------------------------ I hope this helps. > The tricky bit is going to be the in-place upgrading of the system. > Most of that will be handled by sgml-base, which I am not the > maintainer for, but I happen to know the maintain of sgml-base, Manoj, > is pretty short on time as well. > > I'm looking for volunteers.
