This kind of silent-pause is problematic as it breaks the assumptions clients have about the snapshot mirrors being updated every ~6 hours. Fully agree, why not simply change the DNS entry to point to that domain, or setup a redirect to that mirror via HTTP 301? But even then, the damage already happened as the snapshot will silently jump forward, breaking reproducible builds that assumed to have a snapshot date in the range of June-today.
