The computer crashed while I debugged it, but after a reboot and a few more tries, the postinst eventually succeeded. I guess the 2.4 kernel or old rubbish memory modules were the cause, the funny thing being that problems only happened while configuring libc6 :-| Now I'm going to have a memtest pass before I upgrade to sarge entierely. I'll report when I do. I guess it'd also be useful if I produced d-i images with your udebs and tested them. Tell me if there's anything else I could do.
