Hi Folks - you are my last chance ! I just netinstalled a Sparc 5 with Debian Sarge. After tweaking around with the XF86 it's running ok now.
Except: The printer (HPLJ2100) is not working, what is bad for a print server :-) During my troubleshooting I figured, that the parallel port device is not ok. It used to work earlier with Solaris. lpadmin returned "no such device ..." for lp0. *** IIPRT:/# echo "xxx" > /dev/lp0 bash: /dev/lp0: No such device or address *** Here are the facts what I have checked already : ***/dev*** crw-rw-rw- 1 root lp 6, 0 2005-05-17 13:16 lp0 crw-rw-rw- 1 root lp 6, 1 2005-05-17 13:16 lp1 crw-rw-rw- 1 root lp 6, 2 2005-05-17 13:16 lp2 ... -rw-rw-rw- 1 root root 4 2005-05-18 06:57 par -rw-rw-rw- 1 root root 4 2005-05-18 06:57 parport crw-rw-rw- 1 root lp 99, 0 2005-05-13 14:38 parport0 crw-rw-rw- 1 root lp 99, 1 2005-05-13 14:38 parport1 crw-rw-rw- 1 root lp 99, 2 2005-05-13 14:38 parport2 -rw-rw-rw- 1 root root 4 2005-05-18 06:57 parport_pc ***/proc/devices*** Character devices:TURN) 1 mem 2 pty/m%d 3 pty/s%d 4 vc/0 5 ptmx 6 lp 7 vcs 10 misc 11 kbd 29 fb 128 ptm 136 pts/%d 162 raw ***lsmod*** Module Size Used by Not tainted lp 7412 0 (autoclean) parport 26396 0 (autoclean) [lp] sunlance 9896 1 crc32 3248 0 [sunlance] sr_mod 16088 0 (unused) cdrom 28028 0 [sr_mod] ext3 85292 2 (autoclean) jbd 45860 2 (autoclean) [ext3] sd_mod 11868 6 (autoclean) esp 29232 3 (autoclean) scsi_mod 61292 3 (autoclean) [sr_mod sd_mod esp] ***dmesg*** lp: driver loaded but no devices found ***kernel config *** config-2.4.27-2-sparc32 CONFIG_PARPORT=m # CONFIG_PARPORT_PC is not set # CONFIG_PARPORT_AMIGA is not set # CONFIG_PARPORT_MFC3 is not set # CONFIG_PARPORT_ATARI is not set # CONFIG_PARPORT_GSC is not set CONFIG_PARPORT_SUNBPP=m # CONFIG_PARPORT_IP22 is not set # CONFIG_PARPORT_OTHER is not set CONFIG_PARPORT_1284=y CONFIG_PRINTER=m I have absolutely no more ideas what else to check.
