yes, there have been a few critical improvements (the select fix in the kernel syscall table, some libc things, and others I don't have at the tip of my tongue...) My SS1+ here has been up for over 2 weeks, and done an X build and a bunch of other random packages. (I still need some X server patches, but the libraries are up and running so a lot of people have been able to work on things further, from there...)
