If this is what I think, well, it's not really i386 only, but the problem
is it doesn't do any swapping so it can't deal with the filesystem. It
assumes the file system is of the same byte order as the host. I have a
patch somewhere to swap the superblock, and never got any further.

The 2.0.35-based snapshot (980719) includes this (as part of the
raid1/raid5 support, naturally...)
