Well, I was sharing what fixed my X problem. I was trying to run "startx" as a normal user and it was giving me some error that seemed to be a read error. Given that fact, that /dev/fb* was 622, and my RH partition (I'm running both RH and Debian on my SS10) had the permissions for /dev/fb* as 666... well, I figured that was the problem and X has been working reliably for me since. May or may not be the solution to your problem, and I wish you luck...
