ok, thanks a lot. does anyone know: is there a tar installation method ? with slink i was used to create some dir, untar the base in it and chroot to that new installation - on i386 plattform. doesn´t work any longer with potato on i386, but maybe all it needs is some special commands to fix it ? i have 4 machines with redhat working, and i guess that should help me in installing debian somehow ? or maybe i can use the existing silo/redhat to boot a debian install somehow ? the other machine i have has an sunOS 4.something, and does not boot very much (it tries to get /usr* from some nfs server, and i don´t have that nfs server). any idea what i can do there ? > Hope that helps ! yes, it does. will look at the slink docs. in the worst case, i will install slink and then try to update. regards, andreas
