What was your PROM command line for the boot? That has a lot to do with the success of TFTP/NFS booting. You do realize that it is not required to boot from NFS? You can simply use the tftpimage which has a piggyback root that mounts automatically (assuming you have enough memory that is). If you have to go with NFS, use the linux-a.out images, and not the tftpimage.
