Another solution worth considering would be to run vncserver
 (debian package exists for sparc - wahoo!) on the IPC, and the
 v.small vncviewer at the other end.  This is surprisingly snappy,
 possibly faster than running X over your network - depending what
 kind of backbone you're running, and how far you're going.  There
 are other possible advantages too, depending on your needs.
