You need to load the "cs4231" module. For playing with it's settings, you want to find the "audioctl" app at http://www.dementia.org/~shadow/sparcaudio.html (which isn't packaged for Debian yet, but the "sparc-utils" maintainer is aware of this). Also, don't forget to make a /dev/audioctl for it.
