I'll admit that this probably isn't the best place to ask this, so feel free to direct me elsewhere :).
I have a Sparc LX (allison) running Debian stable, and I recently added some new (well, second hand) SCSI HDDs; booting up I get these messages: (new discs are the two IBMs and the COMPAQ) esp0: IRQ 36 SCSI ID 7 Clk 40MHz CCF=8 TOut 167 NCR53C9XF(espfast) ESP: Total of 1 ESP hosts found, 1 actually in use. scsi0 : Sparc ESP100A-FAST scsi : 1 host. Evidently the person who last had /dev/sde (which is otherwise the twin of /dev/sdc) had it formatted strangely. So I think - I'll have to low-level format this drive. Asking around I discover that there is a scsiformat utility in the scsitools package (this isn't available for stable, so I download the source and compile it myself - anyone who wants a .deb for this with stable-dependancies I can give them a copy). The trouble is that when I do scsiformat on /dev/sde it gives an error that the device isn't configured. Any help gratefully recieved.... -- Jonathan Amery.
