Hi all,
Im forwarding this email here.. probably someone can answer me.

The main problem is that the kernel-source-2.4.8/9 are not able to
compile on sparc station2
and also hacking them to compile they are not able to boot.
Also the 2.4.10 downloaded from CVS always endup in:
Boot linux...
mem_init: calling free_all_bootmem()

and the machine hangs.

Does someone know how to make 2.4.x booting??????

I need it both for iptables and raid support to test the latest on ss
(there were
some emails on the ML few days ago)

Regards
Fabbione

HI all,
I would like to understand a bit better how the kernel source pkg is
done.
AFAIK the main stream for i386 comes from kernel.org
since the kernel-source-X.Y.Z is all archs (this from the pool) who take
care
of merge other archs (like sparc for instance) in the debian pkg???
I was searching around for sparc kernel source code and the only one I
found
is the cvs at vger.samba.org and the 2.4 branch is update every 30
minutes.
So what concern me is that merging that branch is not that safe.
I just got an error compiling it on my ss2 after 10 hours of
compilitation
( frustrating trust me!:) ).
What I've notice on some kernels deb packaged is that the mantiner/s
include
sometimes patches to make them compiling smoothly (same reason why
probably
they don't come out the same day as the main stream and that's a good
policy)
but does this include also other archs or only i386????

Well better I stop here...
I hope someone can explain me...

TIA
Fabbione
