No. Like I wrote, we used the pre-compiled kernel from
the javastation how-to and the root.tar archive from
ftp.de.debian.com since I guessed that the kernel
included with the tftp bootimage would not work.

I just read a posting from Troy Morrison in debian.arm 
that describes exactly the same problem:

So, it looks like I am not the only one having problems 
to install debian woody via nfs.

If the installation over nfs does not work it would
be extremly helpful if someone could create a live
snapshot of his filesystem and put it on a ftp server.
