I'm running a Sparcstation 20 using stable 2.2.20 and have the following in my syslog:
Dec 7 08:32 sparc20 modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module char-major-4 Dec 7 08:32 sparc20 last message repeated 20 times Dec 7 08:33 sparc20 last message repeated 36 times Dec 7 08:33 sparc20 last message repeated 3 times Dec 7 08:34 sparc20 init: Id "1" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 min Dec 7 08:34 sparc20 init: Id "2" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 min Dec 7 08:34 sparc20 init: Id "3" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 min Dec 7 08:34 sparc20 init: Id "4" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 min Dec 7 08:34 sparc20 init: Id "5" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 min Dec 7 08:34 sparc20 init: Id "6" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 min When I built up the system, I had a monitor and keyboard attached. Now, since I'm using it as a server only, it's running without monitor/keyboard. The above msgs are clearly associated with whether the keyboard is attached or not, as I can re-attach it and the msgs disappear. If I want to keep the keyboard unattached, what are the best edits to make to stop these messages? In a google search I found a suggestion to add "alias char-major-4 off" to my /etc/modutils/aliases file. Does this make the most sense?
