What is the PROM going to execute that would replace silo? Where is it going to get this program from? Yes, the PROM can load files via tftp, and can read the boot block from the disk, and yes it can read UFS filesystems. None of that helps it boot a Linux kernel from an non-UFS filesystem. The PROM is not a bootloader, it is no different than a BIOS in a PC (except tons better and more flexible) in functionality. It does not boot the OS, it merely bootstraps the OS Loader.
