I use a setup like this /dev/sda2 3869036 546880 3125620 15% / /dev/sda1 14705 6710 7236 49% /boot on a Sparcstation 4 that would not boot after I at first had partitioned the whole disk as one partition. I find having a separate / (and thus probably separate /usr, /var, /home, and whatnot) a bit messy on small systems. A separate /boot is nicer according to my taste. Gruß - Thomas
