Hi Rich, What I did when my HD was configured was skip all the steps and went down the menu directly to the network configuration part, skipping the kernel modules and any other stuff (for now). Once this network config was setup, miraculously the kernel modules install part recognizes HTTP as a valid way of installing.
I am not sure if you have tried this part. Usually when the X1 is off, you allready have LOM access through the Serial port. By using poweron you can get into the booting system, but if it tries to boot directly, you have to send a break command by typing Ctrl+Del serveral times. In any case, if you have tried the above and it doesn't work, do the following: Do a tftpboot of debian. Once the image is loaded along with the debootsrtap application, go down the menu and enter a shell. If you "shutdown" the system, it should halt and you should get the Sun's maintenance OS working for you. When I try to configure modules, I can't because it has no drivers.tgz file. I am about to try a netinst from a newer boot.img file, but now I've got back to the problem of not being able to send a Break signal to the netra to get into the LOM to do a boot net command. I am trying to control the netra from a windows machine (unfortunatly). i will let you know If I can get any further with the newer boot image.
