Thanks for all of the answers.  2 things went wrong:

1.  I had a bad cable...
2.  My machine was jumpered for a RS-423 port not an RS-232!

I've got a 100mhz Sparc 5 running the untested version of Debian.  Does
anyone know what /dev works on the serial ports?  I've tried both serial
ports on ttyS0-3 and no luck.
