Hello together, > Tell which version of installer you are using. > Telling more about the error is also helpfull. >
i got a similar error, when installing sarge via sarge-sparc-netinst.iso dated 2004-09-23 on a sun ultra5 360. the machine boots from the cd and i'm able to set language and keyboard-layout - but then the installer loops because it can not detect/mount the cdrom. I'm using the standard ide cdrom-drive originally shipped with the ultra 5. it is connected to the secound ide-channel and the harddisk is connected as primary master. when looking at syslog several errors from hw-detect are shown: hw-detect: Detecting hardware... hw-detect: Missing Module 'usb-storage'. hw-detect: Missing Module 'floppy'. hw-detect: Missing Module 'ide-mod'. hw-detect: Missing Module 'ide-probe-mod'. hw-detect: Missing Module 'ide-detect'. hw-detect: Missing Module 'ide-generic'. hw-detect: Missing Module 'ide-floppy'. hw-detect: Missing Module 'ide-disk'. hw-detect: Missing Module 'isofs'. hw-detect: loading Modules... ... hw-detect: Detecting module 'ide-cd' for 'Linux ATAPI CD-ROM' hw-detect: Trying to load module 'ide-cd' hw-detect: Detected discover version 1, intalling discover1 hw-detect: Detected hotplug support, installing hotplug hw-detect: Missing modules 'usb-storage (USB storage), floppy (Linux Floppy), ide-mod (Linux IDE driver) ..... isofs (Linux ISO 9660 filesystem) cdrom-detect: Searching for Debian installation media... cdrom-detect: CDROM-mount failed (error=1): device=/dev/cdroms/cdrom0 cdrom-detect: Unmounting CD just to be sure. cdrom-detect: Trying it again. cdrom-detect: CDROM-mount failed again (error=1): device=/dev/cdroms/cdrom0 cdrom-detect: Unmounting CD just to be sure and giving it up. cdrom-detect: CDROM-detect failed. main-menu: (process:495): mount: Mounting /dev/cdroms/cdrom0 on /cdrom failed: no such device main-menu: WARNING **: Configuring 'cdrom-detect' failed with error-code 1 main-menu: WARNING **: Menu item 'cdrom-detect' failed. woody can be booted and installed correctly, the cdrom-drive is okay and the image has correct md5sums - may it be a bug inside sarge-installer or simply a buggy iso-image? any hints are very welcome! Thanks, Achim
