I would guess you are using initramfs-tools to generate the initrd? If so, try the following from the shell prompt: # modprobe ide-generic # echo /dev/sd* Is /dev/sda listed now? If so, the boot should continue after: # exit See also: http://bugs.debian.org/352753 Please report back your results.
